On the 21st February I travelled up to Haywards Heath for the London Team Champs, which also happened to be the last cross race of the season. I arrived with loads of time to spare as I brought up a Senior rider who raced about and hour and a half before me!
When I practiced (before the Senior Race) the course, it was fast and slippery, but not rutted or sticky. Whereas when I rode the course after the Seniors, the course was very different, most of the corners were rutted, which made cornering slow and technical. However the course did suit me as there was 2 very big hill sections in the course.
When the race started 1st and 2nd place riders were off and then there a group with contained me (3rd place), Liam Cowell, Chris McGovern and a few others On the second lap, on one of the hilly sections I split from the group and gave quite a hard effort up one of the big hills, this in turn gave me a big gap between me and the rest of the group. I kept on pushing on and found my self riding the technical sections of the course quite fast and was really enjoying the hills and the technical cornering.
On the 2nd to last lap, the 2nd place rider Josh Parkin took a bike change and this let me catch him up, how ever he dropped me again, but however I still had a good gap between me and the group I was with at the start of the race.
Overall I enjoyed the race alot and the 3rd place individual result gave my team 3rd in the team competition, also, I got 3rd in the London Cyclo-cross Series. With these good results and my very intermediate results in the trophy rounds of this cross season, I hope to have a good result next cross season. However, first on the agenda is the up and coming Mountain Bike season, as I have heard that Cross does alot more for a MTB rider, than MTB does for a Cross rider.
Once again thanks for reading and I will see you in the 2011 Mountain Bike Season!! :D
